Inclusive events in a hub of acceptance
Friends House provides inclusive events in a safe and welcoming environment. Quakers have long been known for their rich history of tolerance and acceptance. They recognised same sex marriage as early as 2009. As a Quaker enterprise, we are committed to diversity and acceptance. We take great pride in hosting diverse events, including corporate events such as workshops, seminars, and conferences. Located in our venue, the Quaker Centre Bookshop also offers a diverse selection of literature, including titles focused on LGBTQIA+ topics.
Embracing inclusivity through our history
We carry a legacy deeply rooted in the Quaker tradition, which places a strong emphasis on equality, justice, and social responsibility. Throughout history, Quakers have been staunch supporters of marginalised communities. On 5th December 1964, Martin Luther King Jnr. and Bayard Rustin attended a reception at Friends House. They had been invited by the Quaker Peace and Race Relations Committee en route to King’s Nobel Prize ceremony. We named one of our meeting rooms after Bayard Rustin to pay him homage. Bayard Rustin was an African American leader in social movements for civil rights, socialism, nonviolence, and gay rights. He was also a Quaker.
Inclusive events for all
We believe in the power of inclusivity and welcome people of any faith, sexual orientation, class, background, ethnicity, and ability in our venue. We want everyone to feel safe, respected, and included, whether they are attending an event or are part of our staff. When you choose Friends House for your corporate events, you choose a space that embraces openness and equality.
