Our Building
Friends House is a historic, Grade II-listed building, opposite Euston Station in London, with The Quaker Bookshop, Seed Cafe (specialising in vegan & vegetarian food) and Library, as well as the London offices of the charity Quakers in Britain.
Friends House is also a modern, sustainable events venue for hire, offering 35 versatile spaces, perfect for conferences, meetings, seminars, exhibitions, AGMs, training sessions and more.
History
Construction of Friends House began in 1924 and the building opened in 1927. It was designed by Hubert Lidbetter, who won the Royal Institute of British Architects bronze medal for “best building erected in London” that year. The design included a Meeting House to seat at least 1,500 Friends for Yearly Meeting, the annual gatherings of Quakers.
Friends House has had many improvements since – and in 2014, following a year of renovation work, the Large Meeting House was relaunched as The Light, our 900 seat auditorium.
In 2015, The Light was awarded a regional RIBA award for its sensitive and innovative design, which includes a stunning skylight in a vaulted roof.
